Mary Persons High
School sophomore Grant
Pixley has been selected
for the 2019 High School
Honors Performance Series
at Carnegie Hall.
Pixley has been selected
to play the tuba in the High
School Honors Symphony
Orchestra. Participation
in one of the five Honors
Ensembles is limited to the
highest-rated performers
from across the world.
Pixley auditioned for the
series in September and was
notified in October that he
had been selected. He and
other finalists were chosen
from a group of over 18,000
other musicians. His ac-
ceptance was based on his
audition, talent, dedication
and past achievements as a
musician. He will join other
musicians from 49 states
and 13 other countries from
around the world. They will
meet in New York in Febru-
ary for five days and have
the opportunity to learn
from world-renowned con-
ductors, work with other
finalists and get a taste of
New York.
When asked about his
acceptance, Pixley said,
"I am very excited about
the oppommity to go to
New York and perform at
Carnegie Hall. I'm sure it
will be a once in a lifetime
experience. Right now I am
just trying to raise as much
money as I can to help out
with the trip:'
The Honors Perfor-
mance Series was created
to showcase accomplished
high school performers on
an international level and
bring them together at the
world famous Carnegie
Hall, a venue that marks
the pinnacle of musical
achievement.
