The Monroe County Middle School softball
squad fell 10-2 in six innings at Gray Station
on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in the Central Georgia
Middle School Athletic League (CGMSAL)
championship contest.
The Lady Dogs, who finished the season
with a 10-3 record, suffered all oftheir losses
to the Lady Greyhounds, who finished an
unblemished 13-0.
C-Team softball head coach Adair Wood-
ward said Gray Station had a deep lineup
that kept the pressure on Monroe County's
normally outstanding pitching staff.
As for Monroe Coun Woodward said
she and assistant coach Josh Ward were
most proud of how the Lady Dogs improved
throughout the year.
"Our pitching was a strength the majority of
the year, but as the season went on, we began
to do the little things bette ' Woodward said.
"These induded: tmderstanding where the
play needed to be made and taking what was
given to us, getting bunts down, putting the
pressure on the other team and putting base
runners in scoring position:'
Individual Lady Dogs' standouts induded:
ace pitcher Anna Woodgeard, who started ev-
ery game on the mound, catcher Riley Dunn,
and infidders Ansley Brooks and Mackenzie
Childs.
Woodward said of Woodgeard: "She's grown
so much in the last year in confidence with
both of her pitches and grew to throw them in
any count, and it made a huge difference."
Childs, Brooks and Dunn were also among
the squad's top hitters, as were Haley Pressley,
Blaldee Shortt, 'nyia Hicks, Trystin Brummett
and Madi-Kate McKinnon.
Woodward said of her 2018 team: "Honestly,
this whole group of girls is so much fun to
be around. Their personalities are infectious,
and it's an absolute joyto have the opportu-
nity to coach them. They find a wayto make
everything fun and create a laugh out of any
situation. Their work ethic is going to set them
apart in the future. Seeing the way their confi-
dence grew and how they began to believe in
themsdves on the field was fun to watch, and
big things are coming for MP if they continue
to work hard and stay focused?
