On Thursday, October 3, Monroe
County Middle School hosted the
Regional cross country meet at
the Monroe County Recreation
Department. There was tough
competition from all the schools
who competed: Upson-Lee Middle
School, Gray Station Middle School
(Jones County), Lamar Cotmty
Middle School, Pike County Middle
School, Clifton Ridge Middle School
(Macon), Henderson Middle School
(Jackson), and, of course, Monroe
County Middle School.
It was an extremely hot competi-
tion both on the course and in the
forecast as temperatures were near
100 degrees as the boys race began
at 4:30 p.m. The temperatures
seemed to increase as the girls race
began at 5 p.m. and then the co-ed
junior varsity race at 5:30 p.m.
There was no relief from the heat
even as the competitors ran in the
woods.
The weeks of dedication to the dif-
ficult practices were rewarded with
a first-place team win by the Middle
School girls varsity team. Five of
the young ladies placed in the top
ten for the event: Jessica Goodwin,
Alanna Wood, Mary Alice Marks,
Ella Hoover, and Kadence Brown.
The strong showing by the team
resulted in bringing home the win.
Congratulations Monroe County
Middle School girls cross country
team!
