Laurens 0 By Richard Dumas Monroe County Middle School cross country stand- out Jessica Goodwin placed 36th overall out of 138 run- ners in the Medium School Girls division of the Georgia Middle School State Cross Country Championships in Cochran on Saturday. Competing as an indi- I vidual, Goodwin recorded a time of 14 minutes, 40 seconds at Bleckley County Elementary Oconee Coun- ty's Jenna Champer was the girls individual champion with a time of 12 minutes, 23 seconds, besting second- place Ruby Little of Marist by 27 seconds. Meanwhile, two Mary Persons varsity boys run- ners competed as indi- viduals in the Coach Wood Invitational at Mill Creek High School in Whitesburg on Saturday. Sophomore Justin Wach- tel placed seventh out of 293 total runners with a tirne of 15 minutes, 36 seconds. Jack Filan of Cambridge was the boys individual meet champion with a time of 15 minutes, 16 seconds, besting second-place Will Stone of Homewood by less than halfa second. MP junior Logan O'Neill also competed at Mill Creek, placing 139th overall with a time of 17 minutes, 18 seconds. The Mary Persons varsity boys and girls cross country teams will next compete in the Howard Cross Country Invitational in Macon at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
