Many of the state's top economic development leaders, including Georgia Department of Economic Development commissioner Pat Wilson, were on hand as the board learned about state legislative initiatives that could boost the state's economy as well as received information on for- estry's critical importance to the state infrastructure. A Georgia Tech economic impact study indicated that forestry employed the second-most workers, 51,900, of any industry sector in the state in 2016 and gener- ated over $20.8 billion in total revenue in that same year. The meeting, which lasted two-and-a-half hours, was preceded by a tour of Barnesville-based Jordan Forest Products. Local representatives in attendance at the meeting included: Forsyth mayor Eric Wilson, Monroe County commission chairman Greg Tapley and Development Authority of Monroe County president Bo Gregory.
