]asa Brown is the new
Children's Director at Mon-
roe County Library. She
, is taking on the job at its
busiest time of year, as the
Summer Reading Program
blasts off, and the library
welcomes about 600 young
readers to take advantage of
all the materials the library
has to offer during their
break from school days.
There are special programs
for children sponsored by
the library three days per
week and prizes for chil-
dren who register and keep
up with how much they
read during the summer.
Brown grew up in Forsyth
and is a 2014 graduate of
Mary Persons. She was the
Senior Superlative voted
"Most Likely to Be on
Actually her goal is to be
behind the film camcr,
instead of in front of them.
She graduated from Savan-
nah State University in De-
cember 2018 with a degree
in Mass Communications
Multi-Media Production
and would like a career as a
film producer.
She said that being the
Children's Director is a new
experience for her, although
she has worked with chil-
dren. She said it relates to
her degree in that a big part
of the job is assigning the
right people to do the right
things and planning well to
put things together.
Brown said Monroe
County Library Branch
Manager Kimberly Clayton
has worked hard to line up
good programs and lots of
community sponsors for
the summer programs so
that Brown is coming into
a program ready to go. She
remembers participating in
the summer reading pro-
grams as a child, and she
is finding that she knows
some of the children who
participate in the summer

Brown is the daughter of
]ohna Smith-Brown of For-
syth and Vernon Brown of
Atlanta. Her brother, ]aden
Brown, is a rising senior at
Mary Persons. She enjoys
videography work and
polished her skills creatin
films during her studies at
Savannah State.
She said she is getting
a feel for her new duties
at the library. She will be

Time program, which
will begin in August. An
important part of children's
programs at the library are
the volunteers who help;
Brown invites anyone who
would like to volunteer to
contact her at the library.
