Monroe County is known
for being a little like "May-
berry" Everyone knows
everyone and sometimes
this may seem to be the
problem for most. In my
personal opinion, this May-
berry stereotype is what
helped me and my family
back in 2011. In April 2011,
my house was destroyed by
a tomado. My family and I
lost everything. We didn't
even know where to start at
picking up the pieces of our
lives and I literally mean
"picking up" the pieces. The
citizens of Monroe County
and other counties came to
our place and started work-
ing diligently in helping us

dean up the debris. People
were br'mging in containers
of tubs to put everything
in so that we could go
through it at a later time.
The vet took in our three
dogs, checked them out,
and boarded them for a
week and did not charge us
a penny. Food was deliv-
ered to us. Money was giv-
en to us. Hotel rooms were
given to us. Most impor-
tantly there were churches
from all over the county
there working and praying
for us. There were several
who searched for our miss-
ing dog and several that
searched for my missing
wedding band. Fortunately,
both were found by people
who jus wanted to lend a
hand and help. I am forever
grateful and indebted to
the residents of Monroe
Count. I will never forget
that unselfishness that
was poured onto us as we
were in shock and devas-
tated. This is why Monroe
County is So important
to me and why I love this
county. The county is like
a big family. People may
bicker and argue but when
it comes down to it, the
people of the county will
always put aside their dif-
ferences and help the fellow
countians. This is my way
to personally thank each
and every one of you for
your sacrifice d .uring that
horrible time in my life.
God was smiling from ear
to ear that day as he seen
the county come together
for a neighbor. God works
in mysterious way. That
day he brought neighbors
together and the commu-
nity together.
