Mcelveen Monroe County 4-H Agent Congratulations Monroe County 4-Hhrs for a job well done at this year's Ju- nior/Senior District Project Achievement (DPA). This year there were 508 competitors, with 225 junior competitors and 283 seniors, in attendance at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton March 1-3. Monroe County 4-H had 10 competitors entered, and they did well in the compe- titions: Austin Wiggins- 1st place Beef, Maddie Combs-lst Environmental Science, Hamilton Darden- 1st Flow- ers, Shrubs, & Lawn, Sarah Boyer-2nd Communica- tions, Savannah Brock-2nd Above left, Austin Wiggins, left, and Hamilton Darden placed first with their district projects and will compete at the state level. Above right, Monroe County Junior & Senior 4-H'ers competed at the Northeast District level. Savanah Brock, far right, was elected VP of the District Junior Board of Direc- tors. Marine Science, Abby Etheridge-2nd Perform- ing Arts-Vocal, Aaron Wiggins=2nd Sheep & Meat Goats, Bethany McRae. 3rd Sheep & Meat Goats, Lexy Chambers-3rd Dairy Foods, Rilyn McKallip-4th Performing Arts-Other Instrumental. Senior 4-H rs, Austin Wiggins and Hamilton Darden, are advancing to State 4-H Congress! Project Achievement is comprised of 7th-12th grad- ers who choose a project of interest, work within that area throughout the year, and complete a portfolio of the work they have done, research a specific topic and then turn their research into a written presentation and visuals. At the competi- tion students present their presentations to a panel of judges. The older they get the harder the competition becomes. That is because 9th-12th grade students are competing for a chance to represent Northo,~ot D;otrict at State 4-H Congress in Atlanta. Another fun and exciting part of Junior/Senior DPA is running for district board. Students who are interested in becoming leaders in the Northeast District have the opportunity to be elected among their peers as a dis- trict officer. We are thrilled to announce that Monroe County is represented by Savannah Brock. She was elected as Vice President of the 2019-20 Northeast District Junior Board of Directors. |11 Middle Ga. Realty hosts Business 2 Business Owned by Middle Georgia Realty contin- ued its tradition of hosting the Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event during the week before the Forsythia Festival. The get-together for local businesses is a good time to show off the logo and T-shirts for the annual festival and to generate excitement and plans for the com- ing weekend. On March 5, Connie Ham's Middle Georgia Realty office on North Lee Street was a great refuge from the cold snap that invaded Forsyth for a few days, especially with Ooh La La catering.
